Join Talk and Chalk — Experienced Interpreters Wanted Across the UK
Are you an experienced interpreter with a proven track record in consecutive or simultaneous interpretation? Do you thrive in high-level legal, medical, corporate, or diplomatic settings? Talk and Chalk is actively seeking skilled professionals to join our UK interpreter network and deliver top-quality interpretation services to clients across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
This is your opportunity to work in a dynamic, professional, and supportive environment where your expertise is genuinely valued — connecting organisations, individuals, and communities across language barriers throughout the United Kingdom.
We are looking for interpreters with solid professional experience who can handle complex multilingual assignments with precision, cultural sensitivity, and absolute discretion. Your skills will ensure seamless communication in HMCTS court hearings, NHS medical consultations, Home Office immigration proceedings, international conferences, corporate boardrooms, and high-stakes commercial negotiations across the UK.
As a valued member of our UK team, you will enjoy:
- Flexibility in choosing assignments — in-person across the UK or remote via secure online platforms
- Opportunities to work with high-profile clients including law firms, NHS trusts, government departments, and leading international organisations
- Collaboration with a professional network of experienced and certified interpreters
- Access to resources, briefing materials, and best practices to continually develop your professional skills
- Exposure to diverse sectors and specialist terminology — from HMCTS legal proceedings and UKVI immigration to City of London finance and LCIA international arbitration
We are seeking professionals who bring:
- Demonstrated professional experience in consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation
- Registration with the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) or the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) — desirable for legal and public service roles
- Fluency in English and at least one additional language to a professional standard
- Strong understanding of cultural nuances and specialist terminology across legal, medical, or corporate sectors
- A professional approach to confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, and client service — in full compliance with NRPSI Code of Professional Conduct
- A commitment to facilitating clear, fair, and accessible communication across cultures and communities
To apply, please submit your application including:
- Your full contact information and location across the UK
- Languages you specialise in and your language combinations
- Professional experience, key sectors, and references
- Relevant certifications — including NRPSI registration, DPSI, CIOL membership, or equivalent qualifications
- Details of any specialist sector experience — legal, medical, financial, technical, or diplomatic
I thoroughly enjoyed my studies. Although my progress was too slow for my liking, the individual lessons helped me develop automaticity in speaking, expand my vocabulary, and improve my reading skills. Listening comprehension remains the most challenging aspect. Thank you.
